Almost nobody calls a cleaning company the first time they think about it. They think about it in March, then again in June, then again the week before family comes to town. What holds them back is rarely the money. It is the pile of small questions nobody puts on a website: do I have to be home, what do I do with the dog, is somebody going to judge the state of my closet, and what happens if they miss something.
We clean homes across McKinney every week, from the older bungalows near Historic Downtown to the newer builds out past Stonebridge Ranch and Craig Ranch. The questions are the same in every one of them. So here is the whole thing, honestly, in the order it actually happens.
You do not need to be home. Most of our clients are not.
This surprises people. They picture themselves hovering in the kitchen making small talk for three hours. In reality, the majority of our McKinney clients are at work, at the office park off US 75, or dropping kids at a McKinney ISD campus while we clean.
That said, we do recommend being home for the first visit only, and only for the first ten minutes. Not because we need supervision, but because ten minutes of you pointing at things saves us an hour of guessing. Which rug is the one you actually care about. Which door sticks. Which room is off limits because someone works nights and sleeps until two. After that visit, we have it written down and you never have to think about it again.
How we get in when you are not there
Most clients give us a garage code or a smart lock code. Some leave a key in a lockbox. A few in gated communities around Adriatica Village or the Trails add us to the gate call list. All of it is normal, and all of it stays with a small number of people rather than floating around an office.
If you are not comfortable with any of that yet, that is completely fine. Plenty of clients stay home for the first two or three visits, decide they trust us, and hand over a code later. Nobody is going to push you.
The first ten minutes
Our team arrives in a marked vehicle, in uniform, usually two people. We walk the house with you quickly. You show us the rooms, we ask about pets, allergies, surfaces that need special care, and anything you would rather we skip entirely. Then we start at the far end of the house and work back toward the door.
We clean from high to low and from the back forward, which is why you may see us dusting ceiling fans and vents before anything touches a floor. It looks slow for the first twenty minutes. It is not. Doing it in the other order means cleaning the same floor twice.
What about the dog
Bring the dog. Seriously. Our crews work around dogs and cats every single day, and the vast majority of animals settle down within a few minutes of the vacuum starting. If your dog is anxious around strangers, the easiest arrangement is a closed bedroom or a crate for the couple of hours we are there, and we will do that room last so the door only opens once.
What genuinely helps: tell us in advance. A dog that bolts out an open front door is the one real risk in this job, and we would much rather know before the first door opens.
Why the first visit takes longer and costs more
This is the part that catches people off guard, so we say it early: the first clean at a new home usually takes longer than every visit after it, and it is priced accordingly.
The reason is simple. A house that has been maintained by a professional crew every two weeks has almost no buildup. A house that has been kept up by a busy family has soap film on the shower glass, dust settled into baseboards, grease film on top of the cabinets, and hard water spots on the faucets. Getting all of that back to a true baseline is a deep clean. After that, keeping it there is far less work, and the price drops.
Think of it the way you would think about a lawn that has not been cut in two months. The first cut is a project. Every cut after it is routine.
What we bring, and what we do not
We bring everything: vacuums, microfiber, mops, and our own products. You do not need to stock anything or leave supplies out.
What we do not bring is a willingness to guess on delicate surfaces. If you have unsealed natural stone, an antique piece, a specialty hardwood finish, or a product you specifically want used on your quartz, tell us on that first walk. We will use yours. Guessing on someone else’s marble is how good companies ruin good countertops.
The question nobody asks out loud
People wonder about valuables and do not want to seem rude for asking. Ask. It is a reasonable question about strangers in your home.
Our answer: our team members are background checked, we carry insurance, and we ask that cash, jewelry, medication, and firearms be put away before we arrive. That last request is not about suspicion in either direction. It is about removing the situation entirely so nobody ever has to have an uncomfortable conversation about a missing item that turned up in a coat pocket three weeks later.
Nobody is judging your house
We should say this plainly, because a real number of people delay calling for months over it. We have seen the laundry mountain. We have seen the sink. We have seen the playroom after a birthday party. It is not interesting to us, and it is not a story we tell anyone. Cleaning a genuinely messy house is the job, not an exception to it.
You do not need to clean before we come. Picking up toys and clearing counters helps us spend our hours on actual cleaning instead of tidying, but that is efficiency, not etiquette.
What if something is not right
Sometimes a first visit misses the mark. Maybe we cleaned the guest bath thoroughly and you mostly cared about the primary shower. Maybe the level of detail on the baseboards was not what you pictured.
Tell us within 24 hours and we come back and fix it. No argument, no invoice. The first clean is partly a conversation, and the fastest way to get exactly the house you want is to say what missed. Our long term clients in McKinney almost all had one or two small corrections early on, and then years of visits with none.
Do you tip
You are not expected to. Plenty of clients do, either per visit or once around the holidays, and it is always appreciated. Nobody on our team will treat your home differently either way, and no one will ever hint at it.
What happens after
Once the baseline is set, most McKinney families settle into a visit every two weeks. Some go weekly, especially larger homes with pets and kids. Others do it monthly and add a deep clean before the holidays. You are not locked into anything, and you can move a visit when life happens.
The honest reason people stick with it has very little to do with clean floors. It is walking in on a Thursday evening after a long day near the office corridor on SH 121 and having nothing waiting for you. That is the product.
Ready to get the first one on the calendar
If you have been meaning to call for a while, this is the easy part. Tell us the size of your home, how many people and pets live in it, and roughly when you would like us, and we will give you a real number before anyone shows up.
Call (214) 430-4447 or request a free quote and we will walk you through it. You can start with recurring cleaning in McKinney, or begin with a deep cleaning if the house needs a reset first. Not sure which one you need? Say so, and we will tell you honestly.
