Hiring a Housekeeper for the First Time in Prosper? Here Is What to Expect

Bright, tidy modern kitchen counter in a Prosper, TX home ready for the first housekeeping visit

The most common thing people say on a first call is some version of I have never done this before. Usually followed by a slightly embarrassed question about whether they need to clean before we arrive.

So here is exactly what happens, in order, with the awkward parts answered.

The Call

We will ask for square footage, the bedroom count and the full and half bathroom count, your floor types, whether you have pets, and how long it has been since a thorough clean. Those are the things that actually determine the time and therefore the price.

If someone gives you a number without asking any of that, be careful. It is a figure designed to win the call and it typically gets revised upward later or the work gets rushed to fit.

You will get the scope in writing, including what is not included. That last part matters more than the price.

Should You Clean Before We Come

No. And yes, in one specific sense.

Do not clean. That is what you are paying for and it makes no sense to do it twice.

Do clear surfaces. Counters, the dining table, the bathroom vanity, floors where possible. A crew cannot clean a counter covered in your belongings, and no reputable company will move your personal things around, because putting your possessions somewhere you did not choose is how people lose track of them.

Fifteen minutes of clearing before we arrive is the difference between a good visit and a great one.

The First Visit Takes Longer

Almost every household should start with a deep clean rather than a maintenance visit, and it is worth understanding why rather than assuming it is an upsell.

A maintenance visit is designed to hold a standard, not to create one. If the baseboards, the blind slats, the tops of the door frames, the vent covers and inside the cabinets have been accumulating for years, asking a crew to catch up on all of that within a routine visit sets them an impossible task and sets you up to be disappointed.

The deep clean establishes the baseline. Everything after it is genuinely maintenance, and it is faster and cheaper because of that.

Whether You Need to Be Home

Most Prosper clients are not, and that is completely normal. What matters is that access is documented rather than casual: a code, a lockbox, an arrangement in writing rather than a text message with your garage code sitting in someone’s personal phone.

If you would rather be home for the first visit so you can walk through what matters to you, that is a good idea and we encourage it. After that, most people prefer not to be.

Pets: tell us in advance. If an animal needs to be secured, say so, and we will follow it. If a dog is friendly and staying loose, that is fine and it helps to know.

What Actually Gets Done

A standard visit covers bathrooms in full, the kitchen surfaces and appliance exteriors, dusting all reachable surfaces including above eye level, mirrors and interior glass, floors vacuumed and mopped, beds made, and trash emptied.

What is not included unless arranged: your laundry, your dishes, putting your belongings away, organizing, cleaning inside a refrigerator or oven on a routine visit, pet waste, and anything requiring a ladder above normal reach.

That division is not us being unhelpful. It is what keeps a visit predictable in time and price, and it is worth agreeing on in words before anyone shows up.

Tipping, Since Everyone Wonders

It is not expected and it is appreciated. Some clients tip each visit, many do so at the holidays, and plenty never do and are perfectly good clients. Nobody is keeping score.

Feedback is worth more than a tip. Telling us the guest bathroom rarely needs attention and the kitchen always does changes every future visit.

Say Something Early

Something will eventually be missed. What matters is what happens next, so raise the first small thing deliberately, within a day or two, precisely so you can see how it is handled while the stakes are low.

A company that has a stated window and a stated remedy has thought about this. One that gets defensive has told you how the year will go.
